Baahubali 2 Movie Review : Bollywoodlife.com

Prabhas’ performance and S S Rajamouli’s vision turn critics into fans

Bahubali 2 has finally released and a lot of people have figured out why Kattapa had to kill Bahubali. Was it done willingly or happened because of compulsion? Relax, we aren’t giving out spoilers here because we aren’t so evil. But we will tell you how Baahubali 2 has turned almost every critic into fans. Everyone is gushing about the film and the way it is presented. They got their fill and returned with a happy heart. That’s why we thought of bringing to you reviews of the film from other sources and let us tell you, they have mostly gushed about it.

Bollywoodlife’s Sreeju Sudhakaran gave it three and a half stars and said, “Prabhas is not the hero of the movie… I mean, Prabhas is not the only hero of the movie. Let me list down the real heroes that make Baahubali 2 such a grand experience for most of its runtime. Let’s start with the real hero – the director SS Rajamouli. For a dream to come true, there has to be a man with a great vision and dedication to run it, and for Baahubali, it’s always this whizkid from South. Though his direction is not perfect, Rajamouli manages to bring grandiose to every frame of the movie. This is a man who knows his craft, and every filmmaker should learn from his commitment and passion. He knows how to create powerful scenes, like Bhalladheva’s coronation scene or when Baahubali metes out justice to a perverse minister. You can’t help but cheer for the hero in these scenes, and it has more to do with how Rajamouli has crafted these scenes.”

In a four star review, Koimoi has asked people to take a loo break at their own risk. The review reads, “The grandeur of Baahubali 2 is huge and like it was promised, Rajamouli makes it bigger and better. A particular bow-and-arrow sequence between Baahubali and Devasena looks amazingly romantic yet action packed. Sound designing is spot on and hence you truly feel those arrows hitting and every slash of the blade (swords) fiercely. Baahubali 2 is as big as the first one, maybe even better. A thoroughly entertaining action drama. Watch it for super amazing Prabhas and Anushka Shetty.”

Hindustan Times’ review reads, “Filmmaker SS Rajamouli has always claimed that what we saw in Baahubali: The Beginning was just an introduction to the Baahubali franchise. A few minutes into this epic saga, and one is left with no doubt that he was right. Baahubali 2: The Conclusion not only has all those amazing sets and spectacles that wowed us the first time, this one also packs in a lot more of drama and emotions. Baahubali 2: The Conclusion is a seamless continuation in scale and splendour of the first part, starting just where it ended. The story picks up from where Kattappa ended in Baahubali: The Beginning and begins with Baahubali entering to tame an elephant.”

Firstpost gave it a four star review saying, “Rajamouli takes us on a roller coaster ride which makes the burning question a footnote in the larger picture. Yes, everything in the film leads up to that moment, but the strength of Baahubali 2 lies in its characters and how far they can go for what they believe in. Oh, boy! There’s so much to love about the film, even though your mind tells you that you’ve already come across stories like this in the past. Its beauty lies in the way the story is told and Rajamouli knocks it out of the park yet again. If Baahubali : The Beginning gave us a glimpse of Mahishmathi, the second part focuses on exploring psyche of its characters and how clash of ideologies can lead to devastating results. Every expression, even if it’s a tear drop, is highlighted and the camera holds still to make us sympathise with the characters even more.”

Sarita Tanwar in her 3-star review in DNA writes, “You are transported into the world of the kings and warriors, of brave men and petty politics. The film engages you so well that you will cheer for Baahubali every step of the way, and curse Sivagami for being blind to his noble ways and getting manipulated. The romance between Prabhas and Anushka is old world and appealing. The mother-son conflict is the crux of the film and their scenes together are the main highlights of the film. Ramya, Rana and Anushka do their bits but Prabhas is the soul of the film.”

NDTV’s Saibal Chatterjee however didn’t quite feel entertained by the magnum opus. Giving it 2.5 stars, the critic wrote, “Baahubali: The Conclusion is a film that is so in awe of its own grandiose canvas that it tends to lose sight at times of the need for tighter editing and more believable characterisation. Just about everything in the film falls prey to the lure of excess. It has several flamboyantly mounted passages that drift in the hope that the ‘magic’ of the visuals would be enough to keep the audience from noticing the over-indulgent strain.”
